Summer Skincare 101: How to Achieve Glowing Summer Skin

How to change your skincare for summer

While it’s essential to have a solid skincare routine in place year-round, each season brings with it unique skin challenges. During the warmer months, breakouts, hyperpigmentation, sunburns, and irritation are more likely. This is why you should change up your skincare regimen — here’s how.

SPF, SPF, SPF…can we say it enough?

Sunscreen is crucial to wear all year round, but especially during the summer. You should wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on all exposed skin. Don’t forget about hands, feet, ears, and lips. Choose a sunscreen specifically formulated for the face, such as LaserAway Beauty BFF SPF Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Tinted Color Corrector, which protects your skin from UVA and UVB sun exposure, oxidative stress, and pollution.

You should make sure to apply sunscreen as the last step in your skincare routine, but before you put on makeup. It’s also important to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours, so make sure to pack extra sunscreen if you’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors. For your face, use powdered mineral sunscreen for touch-ups, which won’t ruin makeup.

Lighten up your skincare routine

The winter months tend to be arider and dry out the skin more, but the humidity of summer means you can swap out a heavier cleanser, like a cream or oil one, in favor of a gentler one. What’s more, choose a lightweight ceramide-based moisturizer that won’t clog pores, such as LaserAway Beauty Drenched Peptide Enriched Moisturizer, which strengthens the skin’s barrier without an oily or greasy feel. Remember that despite the weather being hot and humid, you still need to moisturize your skin daily. Always apply moisturizer after cleansing the skin.

While you should apply a high-quality vitamin-C serum year-round, it’s even more essential in the summer. Why? Because vitamin C helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improves the appearance of fine lines, and can help with collagen production. Layer a few drops on your skin between cleansing and moisturizer. Summertime is also a great time of the year to exfoliate your skin regularly, especially if it’s oily. Using alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) pads can open up blocked pores and remove oils that result in acne.

Consider dermal fillers and neuromodulators

Unlike many facial treatments, including chemical peels, you don’t have to stay out of the sun with injectables. That’s because there’s no risk of hyperpigmentation during the summer months with this type of cosmetic treatment. Dermal fillers, like Juvéderm and Revanesse, can take your skincare routine to the next level by helping you maintain great skin. Made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body, Juvéderm diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, adds volume to cheeks, and smooths out folds and creases. Revanesse restores volume and enhances the shape of lips. Results last up to two years, depending on the area and specific product.

Similarly, neuromodulators, like Botox and Xeomin, improve the appearance of frown lines, forehead furrows, and crow’s feet by relaxing the underlying muscles. Results last two to four months, and then it’ll be time for another treatment.
